Matt is excited to share his vision for a brighter, more prosperous future. His priorities are clear and focused on creating meaningful and positive change for our community.
Our strategic location with access to interstate corridors, waterways, and rail transport make it ideal for economic development. We must better use these assets to give us a competitive advantage for smart growth. I will champion job creation, foster a business-friendly climate, and actively recruit new developments that will improve our quality of life now and for generations to come.
Our downtown and lakefront districts are the heart and soul of the community. As a member of the Downtown Development Authority, I am working to attract new businesses and restaurants and incentivize the adaptive reuse of historic buildings. Engaging residents every step of the way, I will prioritize these areas to create vibrant, welcoming spaces that serve as the community’s front porch and bring together families from across the city to enjoy high-quality entertainment and vibrant local attractions.
We must prioritize the repair of our existing roads and bridges that have endured several extreme weather events, while also addressing issues such as traffic congestion and increased road deterioration that will result in District D from construction of a new DOTD Nelson Road Bridge. For the health and safety of our community, our water and wastewater must continue to be a priority for public dollars. Most importantly, while building for the future, we must protect our neighborhood atmosphere, including residents in the decision-making process and ensuring City priorities align with community needs.
Our community is ready to turn the page on the chapter of recovery, and I bring a renewed commitment to finishing the job. I will prioritize completing the remaining recovery projects, ensuring that every family and business receives the support they need to thrive. With an eagle eye for detail, I will work with those still struggling to rebuild whether it be replacing a roof or restoring a business sign, and I will fight to prevent any further unfair business dealings from outsiders seeking to capitalize on our recovery.
By prioritizing crime prevention and addressing root causes such as juvenile violence, I aim to create safer streets, parks, and neighborhoods for everyone. I am dedicated to improving police-community relations and ensuring that our public safety departments receive the necessary funding. By investing in proven crime prevention strategies and addressing the upstream issues of juvenile violence (including early childhood education), we can safeguard our homes, streets and parks.
